This TED talk, i think, shows that everyone goes through the same struggles and the same thoughts. You cant feel like your the only one going through a hard time because struggle is human. Everyone may not be the same personally but everyone, in a way, goes through the same experiences. People make mistakes and regret a lot, But at the end of the day, it's what makes us all human.
In this video, Ze Frank Begins to give the audience what he calls "the human test". In this test he asks a bunch of very relatable questions and says to raise their hands to relate. He begins to ask simple questions like "have you ever ended a text with a period as a sign of aggression?" and "have you ever tried to guess others password so many times that you become locked out?". By the end of the video he starts to ask very serious questions like "have you ever lost the ability to think of a future with someone you lost in your life?" and "have you ever realized that little in the long run just happens naturally?". Almost everyone in the room raised their hand. All these questions is what makes us human.

In this video Philip Zimardo talks about the secret power of time and how it can affect the ways of thinking. He begins to say that life are temptations like resisting, yielding, yes, no, reflective, etc. Then he talks about an experiment held on elementary school kids. What happens is that the teacher gives marshmallows to her students and gives them the choice of eating it now or waiting 20 min and get another one so they have two. One of the doctors colleagues went back to the elementary school 14 years later to see where the kids are now. Those kids who resisted scored 250 points higher on the SAT. Also they didn't get in much trouble and were much better students. They were rather more future focused than present focused.
This shows me that if i have my mind set for the future rather than the present or past, i can achieve more. For example, I've noticed that when i get assigned a project and start a week before its due than procrastinating and starting it the day before its due, i receive a better grade and I'm less stress. I think this is because i became more future focused rather than present focused which gave me the benefit of a better grade. So if i focus on my future as in who i want to be i have greater possibility in my success.
In this video Haas & Hahn do an amazing experiment on seeing how they can brighten a community with colors and art. They begin by going to a small town in Brazil and pick from three designs. The winning first design was a boy flying a kite, which made the news and was a big success.
The next project was that they planned to paint a Japanese fish on a hill, making it look like a river. This project took about 2 years. The two man spent those two years living in Rio, becoming good friends with all the people in the town. The people began to grow with the idea and wanted to do everything they can to help. The next project was going to Philadelphia and doing the same thing by transforming a street into a giant patch work of color. This began to bring the community together and brighten up the places that once were very dull. This project shows that you can work without a master plan and how things can flow into harmony. Also how colors can bring communities together. Lately I have had this growing passion for art but I wanted to find a way to have it impact peoples lives in a good, reflecting way. This was such a clever, unique idea to help influence people in a positive way. I now know how to transform a community with something so simple. So this week is teacher appreciation week where we are to appreciate those teachers that take their time to make sure we actually learn something new and understand what we have to know. One of my favorite teachers is mr.shreffler, my english teacher. Hes really cool and has a great sense of humor. He tends to go into the depth of things but it's okay because I always end up learning something new. Another one of my teachers that Id like to appreciate is my gym coach, mr. Colbert. He's so easy to talk to and also has a great sense of humor. He's taught me to never give up and to strive for the best. I appreciate all my teachers though because I know they take their time to make sure that I know what I need to know and that they always want the best for me to succeed. so I thank you all. |
